Overview
SafeRedact is an iOS application that helps you hide or redact sensitive information from images and PDF documents.
The app is designed with privacy as a primary principle. Document processing is performed locally on your device using native Apple technologies. SafeRedact does not operate a backend service for uploading or analyzing your documents.
Documents and Images
You may import content into SafeRedact from sources such as:
- PDFs
- Photos
- Screenshots
- Scanned documents
- Images from the Photos library
- Files from the Files app
- Documents scanned using the camera
Imported documents and images are processed locally on your device. SafeRedact does not upload document contents to our servers for OCR, AI analysis, redaction, or image processing.
Documents may be stored locally inside the application’s private storage when required for features such as recent documents or editing. You can delete locally stored documents from within the app.
On-Device Processing
SafeRedact may use native Apple technologies including:
- Vision
- VisionKit
- PDFKit
- Core Image
- Core Graphics
- Natural Language
- On-device Apple intelligence technologies where available
These technologies may be used for:
- Text recognition
- Detecting sensitive text
- Recognizing patterns such as email addresses or phone numbers
- Detecting possible personal information
- Processing document images
- Applying blur, pixelation, or permanent redaction
All core document analysis and redaction features are designed to run locally on your device.
These features rely on system frameworks provided by Apple. How Apple handles data within its own services is governed by Apple’s policies.
AI-Based Sensitive Data Detection
Premium users may use an automatic sensitive-data detection feature. This feature can attempt to detect items such as:
- Names
- Addresses
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Identification numbers
- Banking information
- Credit card numbers
- IBANs
- Other potentially sensitive text
Detection may use OCR, pattern matching, Natural Language processing, and supported on-device Apple intelligence capabilities. Automatic detection may make mistakes. You should always review detected information before exporting a redacted document.
SafeRedact does not send document contents to third-party AI providers such as OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic, or similar external AI services.
Manual Redaction
Free users can manually select areas of documents to redact, blur, or pixelate. These edits are performed locally on your device.
Exported documents may be rendered or flattened to permanently apply the selected visual redaction. Blur and pixelation are visual effects and may differ from permanent redaction depending on how the document is exported and viewed.
Important: You are responsible for reviewing the exported document and verifying that all sensitive information you intended to hide has been removed or obscured before sharing it.
Personal Information We Collect
SafeRedact does not require you to create an account. The app does not intentionally collect:
- Names
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Physical addresses
- Document contents
- OCR text
- Identification numbers
- Banking information
- Sensitive information found in imported documents
Purchases made through Apple’s App Store and related Apple services may involve limited transaction-related information handled by Apple, as described in the Purchases and Subscriptions section below.
Purchases and Subscriptions
SafeRedact may offer:
- Monthly subscriptions
- Yearly subscriptions
- Lifetime purchases
Purchases are processed through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. We do not directly receive or store your full payment-card information.
Apple may process purchase-related information according to Apple’s Privacy Policy and App Store terms. The application may receive limited information from StoreKit necessary to determine whether you have an active entitlement or completed purchase.
Apple Services
Some functionality depends on operating-system services supplied by Apple, such as:
- App Store purchases
- Photos access
- Files access
- Camera access
- Native text recognition
- Native machine-learning functionality

Permissions
Camera — The camera may be used to scan documents. Camera images are processed for the application’s document functionality.
Photos — Photo-library access may be requested when you choose to import or save an image.
Files — You may select documents through Apple’s document picker. The app should only access files you select or authorize according to iOS permissions. SafeRedact does not claim continuous access to unrelated files on your device.
Analytics and Tracking
SafeRedact does not include third-party advertising trackers. SafeRedact does not sell user information. SafeRedact does not use document contents for advertising.
The app does not currently use third-party analytics SDKs.
You may independently choose to share diagnostic information with Apple through your iOS privacy settings.
Advertising
SafeRedact does not display third-party advertising. Your documents and detected information are never used for targeted advertising.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade user documents or document contents. We do not provide document contents to data brokers or advertisers.
Because core processing occurs locally on your device, we do not normally receive the contents of documents you process in the app.
Local Storage
SafeRedact may store the following locally on your device:
- Recent-document references or copies
- Thumbnails
- Editing state
- Redaction regions
- OCR cache
- User preferences
- Subscription entitlement state where appropriate
This data is stored within the application’s sandbox or using appropriate native iOS storage. You can remove documents from within the app. Deleting the application from your device normally removes its locally stored application data according to iOS behavior.
SafeRedact cannot guarantee deletion of copies you have independently exported or saved outside the app.
Exported Documents
Once you export or share a document outside SafeRedact, that copy may be stored or processed by other apps or services you choose. SafeRedact cannot control how third-party apps, cloud-storage services, messaging apps, or recipients handle exported files.
Please verify the final redacted document before sharing it.
Data Security
SafeRedact is designed to minimize privacy risk by keeping core processing local on your device. We take reasonable steps to design SafeRedact in a way that minimizes unnecessary data collection and transmission.
No software or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
SafeRedact is not specifically directed toward children under 13. The application does not intentionally collect personal information from children. Because the app does not require an account and core document processing is local, we generally do not receive personal document data.
International Users
You may use SafeRedact in different countries. Because document processing primarily occurs locally on your device, document content is not intentionally transferred to developer-operated servers for processing.
App Store transactions and Apple system services may be handled by Apple under its applicable terms and privacy policies.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes, when new functionality is introduced, or when required for legal or regulatory reasons. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be changed when the policy is revised. Material changes may also be communicated through the application where appropriate.
